What Exactly is ShaoLin Kung Fu?

ShaoLin kung fu is an ancient form of martial arts that originated in the ShaoLin Temples of China.  What differentiates us from many other systems of martial arts is our balanced dual emphasis on the artistry of the forms as well as the real-world self defense/combat applications of the forms.  Many martial arts schools specialize in tournament or show competition.  If you visit a school and see lots of trophies in the windows, it’s probably a tournament-oriented school.  That’s OK, if that’s what you are looking for.  That’s not what we do.

There are over 40 different systems within the ShaoLin T’ao system, and most are based on animal styles and movements.  Tiger Claw, White Crane, Monkey, Black Tiger, etc., are all part of our curriculum.  The internal arts, such as t’ai chi, ba qua, and hsing i, are included.

Everything we do is pretty, however, it all has to have a self defense and combat emphasis to it, and those applications have to really work in a street situation; otherwise, we’re not a true martial art.  Feel free to contact us, or better yet, come try a couple of classes.  The free classes aren’t ‘private lesson’ sales pitches.’  They are actual classes with other beginners, middle and upper rank students, working out together.  Come experience the difference and let me know what you think,
